Paw Pain Treatment From Our Livonia Veterinarian

Paw Pain Treatment

At Sheehy Animal Hospital, our Livonia veterinarian offers diagnosis, treatment, and management for any number of illnesses and injuries. If you have recently noticed that your pet is limping or showing any other signs of paw pain, it may be time to schedule a consultation with our veterinary team.

Common Causes of Paw Pain in Pets

There are many potential causes of paw pain, so the first step is to determine the specific cause of your pet's pain. We will typically begin with a physical evaluation to see if there are any obvious causes of paw pain, such as an injury. Some pets who haven't had their nails trimmed in awhile, for example, will experience pain from overgrowth of the nail digging into the paw pads. Another possible cause of paw pain (especially in cats) is that of complications caused by declawing procedures. Some dogs, on the other hand, will experience paw pain as a result of walking on hot asphalt or pavement.

Another potential cause of paw pain, especially in older pets, is that of orthopedic problems such as arthritis. Ultimately, we can perform any necessary diagnostics here in our office (including X-rays) to determine the root cause of your pet's discomfort.

Treatment Options From Our Animal Hospital

Once we can pinpoint the cause, our experienced animal hospital team can make customized recommendations based on your pet's lifestyle and overall health. Whether your pet needs a simple ointment and treatment/bandaging for a wound or more involved treatment, such as an orthopedic surgery, we can handle this in our office. Meanwhile, you can rest assured that your pet is in good hands with us and that we'll provide you with the information you need to perform any necessary aftercare.
